Cooper is a member of the Funky Family; being one of the twin princes of the Funk Trolls as of Trolls World Tour, he also goes by the name Prince Cooper. He first appeared in Trolls, and is the only member of The Snack Pack not born from the Pop Troll Tribe.

Appearance

Normal

Cooper looks very different compared to most Trolls. He has four blue legs, stripped red and pink fur, and a long neck. He has short, woolly blue hair that doesn't stick up like most Trolls in Troll Village. Cooper only wears a green cap.

Despite being a Funk Troll, which usually have more relaxed ears, Cooper has perked up ears, due to being influenced by Pop Trolls who have raised him.

Normal
He has the same appearance as in Trolls.

Normal

Cooper doesn't have any design differences compared to his appearance in Trolls and Trolls Holiday, except that the stripes on his fur don't blend with each other.

Normal

In Trolls World Tour, his fur has a more fluffier look to it and his hair strands are slightly thicker than in Trolls and Trolls Holiday.

Cooper is of Funk Troll heritage. He resembles his twin brother Prince Darnell. Though he and Darnell are identical twins, their appearances vary significantly. Compared to the chilled, laid-back expression that Darnell normally has, Cooper has a wide-eyed goofy one, coupled with his frequently shown buckteeth. Cooper's hair also resembles the hair of his mother, Queen Essence.

Baby
As a hatchling, Cooper had less distinctive stripes, and his head and eyes were larger in proportion to the rest of his body. His hair was also noticeably shorter and curlier.

Normal

He mostly has the same appearance as in Trolls: The Beat Goes On!, though his proportions have been readjusted; for example, his feet are smaller and his legs are slimmer. His cap also changed slightly, now leaving a brief shadow on his forehead. His colors have also been changed to slightly different tones. Overall, he now matches his 3D model more closely.

Personality

Cooper is a Troll who goofs off and is less-than-serious than other Trolls. He often appears quite dimwitted; for example in Trolls, when escaping Chef he goes into the tall grass to hide with Poppy and the child Trolls, forgetting that he has difficulty to blend in.

In Trolls: The Beat Goes On!, Poppy states that Cooper's mind works in reliable mannerism, meaning that he shouldn't be doubted when he knows something. His methods don't seem to be logical, or even sometimes sane, but often end up getting the result done. He seems completely oblivious at times in to serious situations. In "Chummy Sparklestone", he went around and solved mysteries despite barely having much information to go by in many cases. Likewise, in the same episode, he found it impossible to be Chummy Sparklestone until Guy Diamond convinced himself he was the character, leading to him completely forget who "Cooper" was. Poppy later convinced him to figure out where Cooper went, which made him revert back to his normal self.

Even Cloud Guy acknowledges Cooper's goofiness. In the DVD extras for Trolls, when speaking about Cooper, he tells the audience not to laugh as it only encourages him, to which Cooper while he has started to say this took a stance to make him look like he's flying by making only his head and arms appear on the screen.

In Trolls World Tour, Cooper finds himself drawn to the revelation that there are other kinds of trolls, and is intrigued to find he resembles the Funk Trolls. After overhearing Poppy and Branch discussing the idea of reaching out to the other tribes, he decides to leave the only home he's ever known to find other trolls who are like him. This shows that despite his goofy, happy-go-lucky personality, Cooper knows that deep down he isn't the same as the Trolls who raised him, and learned to find out where he came from.

After getting to know his family and quickly growing close to them, Cooper comes to the understanding that although he was born a Funk Troll and raised as a Pop Troll he doesn't have to be just one or the other, deciding he's Pop and Funk, as he explains to Branch and Poppy (alongside Hickory) once they're brought aboard Vibe City. Compared to his family, he seems to be more open-minded to the idea of uniting the Tribes, as he has exposure to two different types of music.

When his birth family's home is threatened by the Rock Trolls, Cooper is shown to love his family that he chooses to stay and help them, but still cares for his friends as he sends Branch, Poppy, and Hickory away for their own safety. He and his brother Prince D also get extremely upset when Barb uses the Ultimate Power Chord to brainwash their parents.

Although not the brightest, Cooper has the courage to trust his instincts and go with the flow of what's going on around him. He's the first one to hear and feel his heartbeat as well as noticing his chest glowing, thus joining in with D to create music and encourage the other trolls around them to regain their morale, leading to the realization that they can create their own music. He has also gotten sarcasm from his brother Darnell as in Trolls: Holiday in Harmony.

Relationships

Friends

Queen Poppy

Cooper and Poppy are very close friends. Poppy is very worried and upset when Cooper and her other friends are taken by Chef. Although she's very anxious, she also feels confident and positive that she'll go and find her friends, including Cooper, and bring them back home.

She's also concerned about him when he cannot come with her and Branch in Trolls World Tour, as he has to stay with his family to defend the other Funk Trolls from Barb.

Branch

Cooper considered Branch a "party pooper", questioning why Poppy would even invite him to his party. Like other members of The Snack Pack, he realizes Branch has reasons for acting the way he is later on in Trolls, and sympathized with him over a relative being hurt because of music and singing.

Dante Crescendo

Dante was paired up with Cooper in the Trolls: TrollsTopia episode "The Buddy System", but he was put off by the fact Cooper produced cupcakes. By "Palentine's Day", Cooper and Dante were on a less harsher reaction to each other, as Cooper was left asking asking Dante if he would be his Palentine.

Other Funk Trolls

In "Don't Make Me Laugh!", Cooper was entrusted with being the champion of the Funk Trolls in a laughing competition. This was the highest responsibility the Funk Trolls had given since he found out he was a Funk Troll. Generally so far in both Trolls World Tour and Trolls: TrollsTopia, the Funk Trolls treat him like any other member of their Tribe.

Family

Prince D

Prince D is Cooper's long lost twin brother. Right after meeting his own family, Cooper instantly strikes up a rapport with D relatively quickly, and they become inseparable. D is also the one who encourages him to help the other Trolls after everyone loses their colors.

King Quincy and Queen Essence

After being reunited with and meeting his parents for the very first time, Cooper is overjoyed and quickly grows close to them, touched by their love and affection, like his mother's kisses and his father's lame "dad jokes", and is able to laugh with them over some mild family teasing. His parents show not only acceptance, but pride in Cooper declaring himself to be both Pop and Funk, indicating that they're grateful to the Pop Trolls for taking care of Cooper and are proud of the Troll Cooper has grown up to be.

Others

Cooper mentioned having an uncle who broke his neck tap-dancing. Since it is revealed in Trolls World Tour that he's really a Funk Troll and was raised by the Pop Trolls, his uncle is likely adoptive.

In the Trolls: TrollsTopia episode "Fastest Draw in the West", he mentioned his cousins Eddy and Freddy. Similar to the situation with his uncle, it is unknown if they are adoptive Pop Trolls or from his Funk Troll family.

Skills & Abilities

He has most normal Troll abilities, as well as the abilities of his Tribe.

Cooper has issues with camouflaging himself as seen in Trolls, and he has less control over his hair. Both issues are to do with his heritage.

Cooper's fur has special properties, and is used to make Hug-Time Bracelets.

Cupcakes

Cooper is able to produce cupcakes. In Trolls World Tour, he also produces an entire cake complete with lit candles. It's unknown if this is an unique trait to him or his Tribe.

Psyche

While the typical Funk Troll has above-average intelligence, Cooper is an exception to the Tribe. While part of it could be put down to being raised by a different Tribe, it's still notable as an exception to the Funk Trolls overall, and Cooper is goofier than the rest of his kind. He's often oblivious of what's going on, and when he's aware of what's happening jumps to the most absurd conclusions. An example of this is in Trolls, when Chef statement's "I am that 'he'" led Cooper to think that Chef was a "dude", misunderstanding her metaphoric phrasing.

Occasionally, Cooper can work out things other '"smarter" Trolls struggle with due to his simplistic approach. In Trolls World Tour, he worked out that the Funk Troll on the scroll looked like him, and was the first one of The Snack Pack to acknowledge that there are indeed differences between the Tribes and he was another kind of Troll to the Pop Trolls. In the Trolls: The Beat Goes On! episode "Coop, Where's My Guy?", he's used by the other Trolls to distract Poppy and Branch so they can turn Guy Diamond's surprise party into one for Poppy herself, and he proved in the episode that his methods have means to them at times. The writers of the franchise generally use his goofiness for the sake of humor, but Cooper is often used as a plot device to forward the plot in a way or to express what's going on in a more comedic way, often saying the dumbest things in the most serious moments.

Despite being among the four least intelligent Trolls Cooper was able to find Poppy in her hiding spot in the Trolls: TrollsTopia episode "Hide & Go Hug", while the other three Trolls (DJ Suki, Synth and Demo) not only didn't find the hiding spot she was in, but completely forgot that Poppy was playing a game by the end of the episode.

Music

In Trolls, when Cooper wasn't harmonizing his lyrics with other Trolls, he added a rap beat to them. For example, in Can't Stop the Feeling!, during the line "Nowhere to hide when I'm gettin' you close", he sings "Can't stop, won't stop". In the lines "When we move, well, you already know", he says "Let’s go, let’s work".

In the Trolls: The Beat Goes On! episode "Big Poppy", Cooper revealed that he never auditioned to compete in the compliment rap battle, but instead wrap a gift.

In Trolls World Tour, it is revealed that he's a Funk Troll, and thus has dedication in the Funk genre. Unlike his brother Darnell, Cooper has picked up Pop music, so while he's primarily a Funk Troll by heritage, as a consequence he's also half-Pop, while Darnell is half-Hip hop. As Darnell explains, it is possible for Trolls to cover other genres besides their Tribes' own music, thus allowing Cooper to do both Funk and Pop music as a result. Darnell suggested Cooper may too be half-Hip Hop like himself, rather than half-Pop. In Just Sing, his heart had glowed pink, the color of Pop music, while his brother glowed purple, the color of Funk; this indicates that despite his heritage, Cooper's heart was attuned to Pop while his brother was Funk.

He's also capable of playing a harmonica with just his mouth.

He's considered a great dancer due to his 4 legs. In Trolls, he's one of the few Trolls who can compete with Guy Diamond in dancing.

Humor

Cooper's style of comedy is non-sequitur, meaning that he's silly often for the sake of being silly. He taught Dr. Moonbloom in the Trolls: The Beat Goes On! episode "Doc Doc, Who's There?" how to find her silly side. In the Trolls: TrollsTopia episode "Dante the Entertainer", Cooper was noted by the kids of TrollsTopia to be the best kid's entertainer, but he denies that, reserving said status for whomever pulled the Balloon Sword in the Stone.

He's the funniest Troll around, but has trouble not laughing at things when serious. This was the subject of the episode "Don't Make Me Laugh!", when the Funk Trolls choose to represent them in a tournament to not laugh. The problem is, while he's able to make other Trolls laugh at him, he finds it almost impossible to not laugh at others. In fact, he can go an entire day laughing and still not get all the laughter out of himself. He's eventually taught by Laguna Tidepool how to counter other Trolls' gags to protect himself in the competition by learning their techniques before facing them in the arena. By countering them with his own gag or calling out, he prevents himself from laughing.

Medical Status and Issues

Age and Birth Details

According to concept art, Cooper is at least older than a teenager, which would make him at least twenty years old.

His star sign is Sagittarius.[6] Prince D's star sign is Capricorn, the star sign that follows Sagittarius on the rotation. Since the two are twins, this means that Cooper hatched at least a day earlier than his brother, and the pair were born on either side of the edge of the two star signs, thus ending up with different star signs. This also means they have different birthdates.

Because Cooper and Prince D are supposed to be identical twins and D doesn't display any deficiency in mental capabilities, Cooper's own intellectual deficiencies compared to other Funk Trolls are down to one of two factors, if not both. To simply put, one factor was the environment he grew up in. He was raised by the Pop Trolls, and therefore didn't grow up with Funk science around him. The second was circumstantial. It is noted in Trolls World Tour, as Cooper hatched almost immediately when his egg was dropped and hit the ground, which might have affected his then developing brain due to the rapid descent.

Another note is that it's common for babies born prematurely to have an increased chance of acquiring a learning disorder (such as autism) later in life. This would also explain Cooper's deficiency in his mental abilities compared to other Funk Trolls. This is backed up by the two brothers' star signs being different and confirming they were born at least a day apart from each other, and that Prince D in contrast has the same mental capabilities as other Funk Trolls, presuming having gone on to have a normal birth with no complications.

Sagittarius are known for their positivity as extroverts, though ironically known for their smarts - which Cooper lacks.

Trivia

General

Freakytrolls

The wormhole scene from Trolls Holiday, showing Cooper as the original toy he was based on.

  • The original toy he was based on makes a cameo in Trolls Holiday, when the group goes through a wormhole.
  • Cooper is one of the three characters to have the same voice actor throughout the franchise, the others being Cloud Guy and Fuzzbert.
  • He's the first member of the Snack Pack to not be a Pop Troll.
  • Cooper is the first Troll to have both parents featured alive, named and on-screen, as prior to him all Trolls only had 1 parent shown or featured none at all with Smidge being the only Troll to mention having "parents" but fulfilling none of these criteria.

Specific To...

Trolls World Tour
  • Some notes:
    • The Funk Trolls had been left afraid of the Pop Trolls since the isolation of the Tribes, due to how the Pop Trolls had stolen their music previously. Cooper being raised by what his people feared can be seen as a form of irony; the Funk Trolls would never have approached the Pop Trolls because of this fear, and thus never found him if not for Queen Barb's Rock World Tour.
    • Cooper being raised by a different Tribe was also proof that the Tribes could get along with each other, as without knowing his origin to the Pop Trolls he was just "a Troll" like them.
    • Cooper has a pink glow that resembles the Pop glow rather than the Funk glow, due to him being raised by the Pop Trolls.
  • In his hand poster for the movie, he's represented with a normal 4-fingered hand. However, as a quadrupedal Funk Troll, he only has 3 digits per limb.
Trolls Band Together
  • There was going to be more Cooper and Prince Darnell interactions during the cut scene of BroZone reunion party's planning, like Cooper getting frightened over a nonexistent cupcake monster when checking out what's inside Fuzzbert, which causes Cooper himself to poop out cupcakes.[7]
